Exteria Building Products is committed to providing you with high
quality, authentic-looking cedar replica composite siding product(s).
Exteria Building Products replica masonry line with their sophisticated
mortar, brick, or stone details and replica cedar products with their highly
refined wood grain are unparalleled in the industry. They are designed to
provide the authentic appearance of real cedar and stone with the benefits
of light weight, durable polypropylene based composite construction that
withstand the elements and look great for years to come.
Exteria Building Products are manufactured using a specially formulated
high durability polypropylene. This mineral filled polypropylene composite,
when used in conjunction with our proprietary formula and molding process,
produces a replication of natural products.
Exteria Building Products come in two distinctive styles. One style is
color-through with the color embedded in the panel itself. The other style
has the base color molded in the panel and a top coat that creates the
appearance of real aged cedar or a very realistic brick or stone.
Aesthetics for both styles are derived from natural materials and therefore
irregularities in grain and gloss levels are considered normal and desired.
Moreover, the product is exposed to the natural elements and over time the
color does fade, as with natural siding products.
Exteria Building Products meet the following building industry standards:
International Code Council - Evaluation Service (ICC-ES)
Florida Building Commission (FBC)
Texas Department of Insurance (TDI)
Housing and urban development (HUD)
Product Handling
Prior to installation, Exteria Building Products are often handled
multiple times before reaching their final destination. The products are
packaged to provide appropriate stability (pallets) and protection, when
handled properly. Exteria Building Products is not responsible for product
that is damaged, marred or ruined by improper storage or handling, including
but not limited to storage of product that places too great a stress of
over-stacked pallets on the product, faulty transportation or movement of
pallets by forklifts or other devices, and product stored in unprotected
locations.
In order to ensure best handling performance and product protection,
Exteria Building Products does not recommend stacking pallets more than
three high for pallet heights less than 50in, or more than one pallet high
for pallet heights between 50in and 100in. Similarly, Exteria Building
Products recommends that safety precautions are utilized at all times to
ensure that forklifts do not damage the top or bottom deck boards of a
pallet and product is not dragged across truck beds or floors. Finally,
product packaging is designed for storage under roofs protected from rain
and moisture only. Product stored or handled improperly will be at your own
risk.
Product Installation
Exteria Building Products are designed to install fast and easy. For best
results, it is important to refer to the installation instructions provided
in or on every carton. Incorrect installation can not only lead to poor
aesthetics, but poor siding performance as well. Exteria Building Products
is not responsible for product that fails or fails to provide the protection
inherent in the product caused by improper installation or a failure to
follow the installation instructions.
We strongly recommend that the contractor reviews the installation for
aesthetic results after a significantly large wall section has been
installed. Although Exteria Building Products are made to high quality
standards, should the contractor or building owner identify an aesthetic
issue due to non-conforming material during an installation in progress,
Exteria Building Products will honor the re-installation of the first ten
squares of product. Ten squares installed will be sufficient to enable you
as a contractor or building owner to correctly assess the aesthetic
performance. As a contractor, you should continue to perform a visual
assessment after each additional ten squares. Continued installation of
non-conforming product shall be construed as acceptance of the product. In
any event, Exteria Building Products will not be responsible for providing
replacement for more than 10 squares of purchased material.
Exteria Building Products does not install panels, nor has any control
over the installation. It is the responsibility of the installer to ensure
Exteria Building Products siding is installed in accordance with our
instructions and any applicable building codes. Exteria Building Products
reminds users that they must refer to local building codes to ensure that
proper underlayment and flashing are used in accordance with local codes and
ordinances. Exteria Building Products is not responsible for a
contractor or installer’s failure to follow local rules and regulations or
to abide by applicable building codes.
Please note that the siding will not act as a moisture barrier and
house-wrap is required to perform that function. As a contractor or
installer, you also need to check if furring strips are required to provide
a moisture and water barrier gap. Exteria Building Products is not
responsible for water or moisture damage caused by the failure of the
installer or contractor to utilize the proper moisture barrier or water
barrier.
Recycling of Construction Waste
As highlighted above, Exteria Building Products products are made
from mineral filled polypropylene composite and as such can be recycled
using recycling symbol #5. If those panels are put into recycling bins,
please ensure they are marked accordingly with a marker. Exteria
Building Products is not responsible for the recycling of any excess
material or panels that are placed in recycling bins, and is not responsible
for any failure by a building owner, contractor or installer’s failure to
abide by local recycling ordinances.
Performance Temperatures and Fire Safety Information of Exteria
Building Products Polypropylene Composite Siding
The use of mineral filled polypropylene composite allows Exteria Building
Products siding to withstand a wide performance temperature range from -40°F
to 190°F, when the material has been properly installed and mounted.
Due to the nature of polypropylene’s organic content, Exteria Building
Products products are not designed to withstand extremely high application
temperatures. Like wood, these organic products are combustible and caution
must be applied when using outdoor grills and other heat sources in close
proximity to your siding. Building owners, occupants and outside maintenance
personnel should always take precautions to keep sources of fire and
combustible materials, such as dry leaves, dry mulch and trash away from
siding. Exteria Building Products is not responsible for damage to panels
caused by high application or installation temperatures, or accidents caused
by third parties which damage the panels, siding or its integrity once the
panels have been installed.
The proprietary resin formula of Exteria Building Products panels ensure
good impact resistance and the material will remain strong both at high and
cold temperatures. Polypropylene becomes brittle at temperatures below 20°F
and caution must be used if the siding will be installed at cold
temperatures. Exteria Building Products is not responsible for
loss of integrity of panels or siding caused by a contractor or installer’s
installation of panels at extremely cold temperatures.
Like any other material, Exteria Building Products siding panels expand
and contract with temperature and the panels are designed with expansion
features that cover an application temperature range of at least 140°F, i.e.
-40°F to +70°F (tundra conditions) or -15°F to +120°F (desert conditions).
The typical contraction range for those temperature differences amounts to ¼
inch and the panels are designed to absorb this while maintaining excellent
aesthetics.
Exteria Building Products is not responsible for air gaps that are
created during the installation process which may degrade the integrity of
the siding.
Miscellaneous Items
The replica grain on Exteria Building Products siding panels - like
real wood grain - is susceptible to excessive abrasion. We strongly
recommend that all trees and shrubs be trimmed to prevent contact with the
siding. Keep shrubs at least one foot and trees at least three feet away
from the siding to avoid damage caused by rubbing branches. Exteria
Building Products is not responsible for abrasions to installed siding that
is caused by plants and trees coming into contact with the siding.
Due to the composite polymer used, Exteria Building Products are
impervious to insects and have a great advantage over conventional building
materials. However, like with any other building products, air gaps can lead
to insect infestation if not properly treated and Exteria Building Products
is not responsible for and does not warrant that the siding, once installed,
will act as a barrier to insect or other wildlife infestation.
